The things we do for love. Some of us have done some extravagant and even foolish things because of love. But it all pales in comparison to the lengths God is willing to go in order to reach, reconnect, and reconcile relationships with each and every one of God’s children; all because of love. By the world’s standards, God’s pursuit of us is so over-the-top, so unrelenting, so sacrificial, that it might seem foolish, but fortunately we are not concerned with the world’s standards.
This year, Ash Wednesday is experienced on February 14 (Valentine’s Day), and Easter is celebrated on March 31 (the day before April Fools’ Day). It’s the perfect time to remember the ridiculous extravagance of God’s love brought to its fullness in Jesus Christ, re-examine the places in our lives where our love for God and neighbor can use some spring cleaning, reclaim our commitment to this life of Christian love, and reflect this love of Christ to others.
